CTRD’s Professional Development Courses incorporate an expository and dynamic methodology. They are specially-designed to enhance speech-therapists’ theoretical-practical abilities at the highest technical and scientific level, in their respective specialist areas. The student’s final mark is based on the sum of the score of a written test taken in the course’s second session, (to which a weighting of 80% will be ascribed), combined with a score given for the student’s overall course participation (to which a weighting of 20% will be ascribed).
Despite its strong origin from Education, SLT has been passing through a very important paradigma change, approaching more and more to Medicine in the last decades. Thanks to the influence of some Brazilian-renowned living abroad researchers specialized in clinical areas, SLT has started to go through gradual scientific and academic changes which has progressively helped to consolidate the profession as an important career in the healthcare field. On the other hand, the lack of medical basis in most universities in which SLT is taught created the need for more in-depth study opportunities, ones that cover other types of pathologies and age ranges not only related to children’s language issues. Nowadays, Orofacial Motricity is the main one.
The traditional medical basis formation these Brazilian Orofacial Motricity specialists are more and more spreading abroad their country were definitely the beginning of the sanitary profile by which SLT is starting to be recognized in places like Portugal and Spain nowadays. With this context in mind and a renowned roll in this paradigma changings, CTRD is now expanding the reach of its courses to English-speaking countries. Especially designed both to professionals with or without experience in orofacial myofunctional disorders, CTRD first training program manages to perfectly make the links between theory and practice, besides connecting SLT intervention to other medical specialties.
The course is taught by the visionary director of Fono Center/ CTRD, Aline Braga, one of the most important icons of Brazilian Phonoaudiology and Orofacial Motricity due to of her importance in the strategic development of the profession in the Iberian Peninsula. In an unique and didactic way, the researcher encourages professionals to develop a new vision and expand their clinical reasoning via Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. By the end of the course, all of the knowledge acquired relating to the main myofunctional and musculoskeletal alterations of the head and neck can be put into practice with total autonomy and confidence, as all attendees are fully prepared to apply what they’ve learnt straight away.
